First training route mapped in the New Territories and it is a beauty. Taking in full loops of two secluded Kowloon reservoirs and a lap of the Crow’s Nest Nature Trail this provides the most serene and runnable of training routes. One to return to over and again.
Head up the winding Lung Yan Road that leads all the way up the the top of Beacon Hill. Passing through a green gate (there is room enough for a bike to go around the gate if it’s closed) ride up through the forest about halfway until you reach a portaloo on the left and a large map sign. This is the point where the road crosses Maclehose stage 6. Interestingly, there's a monkey capture/neutering cage located here that’s used to keep the numbers of our primate amigos in check 🙈 Plenty of space to park up a couple of scooters here.
Basic facilities in the form of a portaloo. Great location for heading straight into the Maclehose stage 6 in either direction.
Starts with an inviting, gentle downhill run around the Kowloon side of the Crow's Nest Nature Trail. The compact earth trail is wide and well maintained and offers panoramic views of the city and out towards Stonecutters Bridge, as you swing around the hillside and down to Tai Po Road. Taking a left onto and over the overpass we enter Kam Shan Country Park. Squarely placed in Macaque country here so be sure to keep any scooby snacks out of sight 🙊
Run up Chung Yuen Road and take a right onto the trail. Take some steps around the hillside to the right to bring you up alongside the first Kowloon reservoir, then after a short while take some more steps on the right that connect to the second reservoir. A full loop of each reservoir provides some idyllic flat running track before we join the nature trail back towards the opening of Kam Shan Country Park. Heading back across the road we pick up the Crows Nest Nature Trail / Maclehose stage 6 (in reverse) that brings us back around the Eagles Nest towards home.
