Wan Chai Gap provides an excellent base for training runs. Our Full Beans route for this location essentially comprises 3 inter-linking loops that can be broken down into separate tracks. Nearby Bowen Road is also easily accessed from here, the best 4km stretch of flat running path on the island, with stunning city views to boot.
Solid base with convenience store, toilets and secluded parking for bikes and cars. These routes can be run as a single “sprint” loop or as multiple laps. Advantage of the latter is we can ditch the hydration packs and stash drinks at our start/finish point.
This is a very runnable track with the possible exception of a 0.5km hill section in the middle that involves 120m of elevation. I say “possible” as its currently beyond my running capabilities but not necessarily to the more hardened HK runners.
It all makes for a relatively fast-running training experience (nice change from the long-distance plodding), mixing up a combination of trail and concrete path. Interesting to see how low we can take this FKT before the summer heat kicks in from next month.
