WAN CHAI GAP (TRAINING: BOWEN ROAD)

Wan Chai Gap provides an excellent base for training runs. Our Full Beans route for this location essentially comprises 3 inter-linking loops that can be broken down into separate tracks. Bowen Road is also easily accessed and features here; the finest 4km stretch of flat running path on the island, with stunning city views to boot.

START / FINISH POINT 🅿️🏪🚻

Solid base with convenience store, toilets and secluded parking for bikes and cars. Whilst other training routes from this location can be run either as a single loop or as multiple laps, this track is a more a one and done. That said, its easy to add an extra half or even whole switchback along Bowen Road. Again, an opportunity to ditch the hydration packs and stash drinks somewhere along the route (preferably near the point where Wan Chai Gap Road meets Bowen Road). There's also an open exercise area here + water fountain and drinks machine.

THE RUN🍺

Bowen Road has to be Hong Kong's signature running track. It comprises a single, mostly traffic-free path, carved out of the hillside and stretching from Central all the way to Causeway Bay. It runs for about 4km and provides incredible city views along the way. Its reasonably shaded and flat, making it ideal training ground throughout the year. Its possible to access from numerous points but our Wan Chai Gap location drops you directly into the approx. mid point of the path via Wan Chai Gap Road.

We run out towards the Garden Road end first then switchback to run the length of Bowen Road to the Causeway Bay end before a final switchback towards home. A short, steep hill climb to finish provides a nice symmetry to this classic training route. Bowen Road's central location and well-lit path make it an ideal track for anytime of the day although if you can, try to avoid the more congested hours of the middle of the day.
